July 30, 2000
Fran Owen is being welcomed back home to Cookeville at Providence Baptist Church this
Sunday morning, July 30th. Fran has been working as an English teacher in Southeast Asia
for the past two years. She is home for a few more weeks and will then return to her
teaching job in Southeast Asia for another year.
Fran graduated from Cookeville High School in 1994. Continuing her education at Union
University in Jackson, TN, she was a member of the Union University Singers and Sigma Tau
Delta, an English honor fraternity.
Graduating from Union University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and
Religion, Fran felt honored to get this teaching assignment. She has been working on a
university campus, teaching English, as well as being a Youth Leader at the university.
Teaching English to 8-10 year olds in her church has also been a priority.
Riding her bicycle, along with multitudes of other people where she lives, has been
enjoyable for Fran. Traveling to several countries while overseas has also given Fran much
pleasure. The Holy Land, Thailand, Hong Kong and France are countries where she enjoyed
the sites and the people.
Sunday morning in the 11:00 a.m. worship service at Providence Baptist Church, Fran
will share her experiences along with a slide presentation about "Life in Southeast
Asia". Providence Baptist Church meets at the Bangham Community Center on North
Hilham Road (N. Washington Ave.) five miles north of 10th Street.
Visitors are welcome to join the fellowship at Providence for this special event in the
life of the church, which will be four years old next month. If you have any questions
about the worship service or location, you may call 526-5304 for further information.
