At the Meeting of the Church on Wednesday evening, August 23, 2000, Dr. James E. Rennell accepted the call to be Pastor of Providence Baptist Church, effective on Sunday, August 27. After retiring as Pastor of South Venice Baptist Church in Venice, Florida, Jim and his wife, Grace, moved to Cookeville earlier this Summer. They have three daughters (Gina Manske, Lisa Sisk, and Julie Smith) and three granddaughters in the middle Tennessee area and are looking forward to life in the Cookeville area. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Dr. Rennell has earned degrees in both education and religion from Austen Peay State University, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Vanderbilt University Divinity School, and University of Wisconsin. During his extensive career, Dr. Rennell has pastored churches in Kentucky (Allensville, Hopkinsville, and Louisville) and Indiana (Uniontown and Oolitic). In addition, he has served as interim pastor to several churches in Kentucky, Wisconsin, and Florida. Other positions occupied over the years include Minister of Education, public school teacher, adjunct professor, and church consultant. Dr. Rennell retired from the U.S. Army as a Colonel in 1997, after 30 years of service with numerous awards and decorations. Dr. Rennell is excited about this new opportunity to pastor PBC. He has many innovative ideas regarding ways to reach out and touch our community in a special way, breaking through the traditional barriers and methods, while honoring the time-tested and treasured Baptist principles. The Providence family sincerely welcomes Jim Rennell as pastor and we look forward to serving and growing together! |
